Celebrating Educational Excellence at the Inaugural BASIS Texas Charter Schools Gala
On April 26, 2025, BASIS Texas Charter Schools held its first-ever gala in support of the Annual Teacher Fund. Parents, educators, alumni, philanthropists, and community leaders from across the state came together to celebrate the transformative work of the BASIS Texas Charter Schools network, which has been serving Texas students since 2013.
Held at La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio, the gala was an upscale and elegant event that highlighted the incredible achievements of BASIS Texas Charter School students and alumni.
The gala was a tremendous success, with over 200 attendees! Thanks to our sponsors and strong ticket sales, we were able to fully cover the cost of the event. We appreciate the support of our sponsors:
- Title Sponsors: Grace Hebert Curtis Architects, Chermack Consulting Group, Key Construction
- Reception Sponsors: Savvas Learning Company, BASIS Educational Ventures, PowerSchool
- Auction Sponsors: Coldwater Ventures, InSite Education Facility Services, Kencon Constructors
- Registrar Sponsors: Buck Financial
- Video Sponsors: Chicago Title Insurance Company, Hertz Furniture, HQ Contracting, Gastroenterology Consultants of San Antonio
With the support of our families, community, and partners, we are proud to share that we raised $59,868 for the Annual Teacher Fund after all expenses were met.
Great things happen when a strong community comes together—and this event was a powerful reminder of the generosity and shared purpose that define our BASIS community.

Supporting world-class educators
The purpose of the inaugural BASIS Texas Charter Schools Gala was to benefit the Annual Teacher Fund, a unique program that rewards BASIS Texas Charter School teachers with performance-based compensation.
We believe that quality teachers are the most important factors contributing to student success. By supporting our teachers, you’re investing in our students’ futures! The Annual Teacher Fund is a large part of what allows us to recruit and retain the very best educators in Texas.
With a live auction and silent auction, gala attendees had multiple ways to give back to our schools. Donors had the opportunity to direct their gifts to the school(s) of their choice, supporting the Annual Teacher Fund in a way that was meaningful to them.
Sharing network success stories
During the event, attendees got to hear firsthand stories from BASIS Texas Charter School teachers, students, and network leaders. Featured speakers included:
- Dr. Craig Barrett, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Founder of the Annual Teacher Fund
- Patti and Peter Bezanson, Co-Chairmen of BASIS Educational Ventures
- David Hubalik, CEO of BASIS Ed Texas
- Andrew Freeman, Executive Director of BASIS Texas Charter Schools
- Roberto Ramirez, VP of Development and Philanthropic Partnerships
- Allison Nieto, Grade 2 Math & Science Teacher at BASIS San Antonio Primary Medical Center
- Elise Gerard, AP Psychology and AP U.S. Government & Politics teacher at BASIS San Antonio Shavano
- David Tobon, high school senior at BASIS San Antonio Shavano
In addition to these guest speakers, the gala featured performances by the BASIS San Antonio Jazz Band and Orchestra. These student performances added a great energy to the event and served as a reminder of the school network’s strong commitment to the arts.
